photo-tip of the week, my gear

I thought to start us off in the “photo-tipping” i would let you know a bit about me…i started photography when i was in the 8th grade, i bought a 50 cent film camera at a flea market and shot roll after roll on me and my girlfriends adventures… in the 10th grade i borrowed a girls film slr for a trip to canada…and learned it by trial and error. Then it died about 3 years later and the gal asked for it back. I always had friends with slrs so i just bummed theirs a lot, but upon marrying the man of my dreams he bought me my very own film slr!!! a Pentax ZXL!!! I was thrilled and used it to pieces. Shot my first weddings on it!!! (lol) and slowly got into my REAL gear, now here is my toolbox! :

Here is my camera Nikon D300, its fantastic! i could go ON and ON, thanks to one of my old friend Lance (who is also a great photographer) for talking it up whilst i was camera shopping! nikon-50mm-lens50 prime lens 1.4  here is my favorite lens, its very low light capable! 1.4 f-stop! i would say that i shoot about 60-80% of my wedding days with this lens. Its depth of field is WONDERFUL! you can get extreme detail from a huge wide range to having ONE eye lash focused and everything else soft and fuzzy! great for getting attention on the bride and not the whole roomAF-S_14-2412-24 2.8  This is my WIDE angle lens, allthoughtechnically a fish eye (depending who you ask of course) it doesn’t distort the image unless your taking a picture of something a few inches from the lens. it is perfect for tight dressing rooms for the getting ready photos, and wonderful scenic shots. I use this lens for the shots of the bride and groom and TONS of sky or field etc…nikon-af-s-dx-nikkor-35mm-f-18g-lens135 prime 1.8   also great for low light, fantastic prime lens, new to nikon. its not too pricey and really shoots sharp fr its dollar! i once shot an ENTIRE wedding with this one!

i also have  other lenses but these are the ones i want to hit on today…see not matter what camera you have if its a slr, the lens is nearly the most important part. The ability to shoot in low light and rarely need a flash depends mostly on your lens! prime lens’ are fantastic for this!

Have you ever noticed that when you zoom in your pictures get darker? thatsbecause you have a lens that wont let you control your f stop! when you zoom it changes the f stop, so you loose light values. but these three lens allow you to stay at the f stop you put it at, no matter what. of course you cannot zoom a prime lens, but the wide angel will stay at 2.8 no matter if it is zoomed in fully. I have two lenses that are being replaced so that this summer i will ONLY shoot with these lenses. switching to nikon has more than payed off for me! my ability and talent has really increased and i am eager to shoot a season with NO limits! my pictures this summer will be the BEST that i have ever taken!
