I’ll say 4.0. It’s not shallow enough for 2.8 (the kids in the back would be more blurred). But higher than that (at least by much) would make them more in focus.
Generally, how do you meter and focus pictures of kids (that are constantly moving)? Spot meter? Do you use AI Servo for focusing? Or single shot? or depends?
Launa and I just got a nice camera and lens and we are trying to learn.
i actually think i shot this on a 1.8!!! but the trick is this: the closer you are to what you are shooting the smaller the depth of field becomes. So even on a 1.4 you can get a bit of depth from a ways back! cool right? and the trick to metering kids is meter once and shoot away. I usually set the iso FIRST and then the speed acording to how i want the ap. so if i want RICH color (and i usually do…) then i keep the iso as low as i can. usually 100-300 then i determine the speed of movement of the kids. if they are fast i set it around 125 or faster and leave it. then i change the speed around to acomidate the sun from different angels. but really the best way to capture kids is to set it once and then GO! i do spot meter a lot! and mostly single shot! Thanks for your guess! your totally right on with your thoughts! i will blog a bit about this soon for you!
